The Wish

Once upon a time in a far away Kingdom called Summer Palace lived King Edward and Queen Isabel with their beautiful nine year old daughter Princess Annabelle. Annabelle was always smiling and always happy. She had everything that she could probably want or did she?
One day, while Annabelle was skipping along the Kingdom, she came across something in the woods. She called for one of her knights to go and see what it was. When her knight came, he told her that the “thing” she saw wasn’t a thing at all, but a person just walking through the woods who had gotten lost.
Annabelle invited the stranger back to the kingdom for a bite to eat and some clean clothes to wear.On the walk back to the castle she asked the stranger where his home was and why he was walking at such a late hour? He replied,”I do not have a home, for I am but a traveler looking for some shelter from the cold night.”
When Annabelle heard what the stranger told her, she went straight into the castle and down the hallway where she found both her parents in the dining room getting ready to eat supper. She told her parents about the stranger she met and asked if he could spend a couple of nights until he got on his feet? Seeing their daughter’s eyes and how much it meant to her, they agreed to her request.
The next day, when Annabelle awoke, there was fighting and arguing going on outside her bedroom window, so she called for one of her knights to go check out what was going on. When her knight didn’t come back to tell her, Annabelle decided to go and see for herself. When she opened the castle door there was the stranger that she had befriended just the night before and he was in the middle of the street trying to get away from an angry mob that were kicking and hitting him calling him a monster because of how he looked. He had a long beard, crooked teeth,and a nose that looked like an elephant’s trunk. Annabelle was upset when she saw this, so she helped the man up and brought him back inside the castle to get cleaned up.
After the man was cleaned up, Annabelle sat down and asked him why the people were treating him like he was a monster?He explained that he had always looked like this ever since he could remember. Later, he told Annabelle that his name was Steven and that he ran away from his home . He was ten years old because of how he was treated by his friends. They just didn’t understand him and couldn’t see past how ugly his face looked. After Steven finished telling Annabelle his story about how he became a traveler, she then told Steven that people treat her differently as well. She too was made fun of because of the leg brace she wears and the way she talks makes her sound like a chipmunk and the only reason why people didn’t mind so much was because she was a Princess and she was rich. Annabelle could tell that they didn’t like her because she could hear them whispering behind her back so that’s why only hung around her family because she never had anybody to hang around with like a friend and that was her only wish that she wanted more than all the money she had. When Steven heard this, he told her that he would be her friend not because he felt sorry for her but because she was nice to him when others made fun of him calling him a monster.
As time went by, Annabelle took Steven in, and they are still best friends. They will always remember what they did for each other despite their differences in how they looked. People today throughout the kingdom still talk about how a young girl named Annabelle befriended a boy named Steven, who everyone called a monster just because of how he looked. We must always remember that true beauty comes from your heart and not from how you look.
